Social Dynamics can be any event where multiple individuals interact for any reason, from meeting someone for a drink, to being at work, to being in love.
There are many social dynamic flavors that exist of which affect the way we behave and perceive things both during and after the interaction, but most of the time we don’t realise the affect it has on us until we have the sudden epiphany on how much we’ve changed as a person, a lot of the time by looking at an old photograph; change is inevitable, and when I refer to that photograph of yours, I don’t just mean the change in your appearance, it’s looking at that picture and remembering what you were like, how you acted and what your personality was.
Every single time we acknowledge something, we learn, be it consciously or sub-consciously, we have instantly added to and reshaped our minds to what we have just processed in order to develop; this is because when we process things around us, we naturally have instincts to perceive and react and the biggest influence is Social Dynamics, people that co-exist with minds, thoughts, feelings and ideas to change those attributes for both themselves and others.
Charitable organisations, television shows and cinema, even the Birthday event is a celebration for the purpose of social interaction, we have been making our own Social Dynamics like this since the beginning of time and from the moment we discovered sense in patterns of the way we do things.
For my University Final Year Project at Staffordshire University (2010-2014) creating a social networking platform for use between the University students and the Student Union, I read a very interesting book recommended by one of my Tutor’s, called ‘Tribes, We Need You to Lead Us’ by Seth Godin.
Tribes
The formation of tribes have developed widespread innovations, for example the Internet has eliminated geography in the process of communication, transactions and interactions; offices can be countries apart, relatives can see each other every day no matter where they are, and now we are naturally a custom tot his way of life and in a lot of ways take it for granted. The real power of tribes actually has nothing to do with the Internet, but everything to do with the people that make things happen within the community i.e. the tribe community members.
A tribe existence requires communication and shared interest, without either, a tribe could not exist and/or it would have no purpose; an effective tribe creates purpose, impact and change. Communications between tribe members can be leader to tribe, tribe to leader, tribe member to tribe member, leader to leader, tribe leader to outsider and tribe member to outsider.
Interests and communications can be shared between participants of which can return potential for both personal and professional development.
So, why the hell am I talking about tribes????
Here I come back to the subject of Social Dynamics…
Imagine you work for a charity, you’re at work, on a night out or with your family, each of these scenarios reflects a tribal movement of which encompasses influences and motivates the ability for us to change our lives based on what we learn, building evolution.
Take a group of friends for example, there may be a leader, there may not be, but there will certainly be a tribe of individuals within this group of friends of which make a difference to another with or without realising it; I have a great blog on ‘Be Interested in the Lives of Others', check it out!
This group of friends have all sorts of activity opportunities, travelling, drinking, building...the point is that no matter what the activity, be it small or large, negative or positive, the result is a change and individual learning upon both the change and the process.
Leonardo DiCaprio is a great actor, Mark Zuckerberg is the social networking guru, Nick Vukicic gives so much motivation to people even though he has none of his 4 limbs, and William Shakespeare was an English poet and playwright that made theater and a lot of the English language what it is today.
These accomplishments are what we aspire to, we know it's what we think about when it comes to doing great things, we think high because of the appreciation we have for it, then there's the trigger that takes that way of thinking and makes a difference, and for many of us that is more difficult to do than others because of barriers with things like belief and confidence.
Conclusion
Social Dynamics are formed, developed and learned from in many ways, it is clear that the actions of other people make an impression on us, be it positive or negative, but in most ways we learn in one way or another, whether big or small. We have been socialising since the time of sensual realisation and the activities we do with each other both allow the participants of the tribal movement to be involved and learn, but outsiders learn from the movement as well and therefore leaves a legacy of evolution.
The term 'Social Dynamics' is a term created by us as human beings, this term applies to animals too...they also breed, live lives, develop and die just like we do, and their way of thinking has evolved just like ours have simply through interacting and learning.
So whether you are socialising with someone or seeing a social interaction as an outsider and the people that made things happen within the movement, the dynamics of the event curve has made a change one way or another, to the people involved, to people outside of the tribe and to the word itself.
DO IT NOW
So do it now; take 3 photos of yourself from different ages, ideally ages that are relevantly spaced out, and you should also have a very recent photo. Take a moment to sit and look at the photos, think about how you felt, what you thought, what your personality was like. Take a moment to try and associate and identify the change within you, think about things that have happened in your life and what things you feel have motivated and influenced who you are today.
Then, finally, you can take this new realisation of self-change based on Social Dynamic experiences and plan out what things you can do to motivate and influence others, being part of the cause to making them who they end up to be; it’s a powerful thing, as it is a natural contributor to our evolution as human beings.
I hope you have benefited from this blog and I hope it has made you think about Social Dynamics in a different way and how you can use Social Dynamics to mold the way you are from now on.
